Morning Routine for Kids

Total: 28 min

Mornings are the hardest part of the day for most families — and even more so for children with ADHD or autism, who often struggle with transitions and time pressure. A visual routine turns an abstract concept ("we leave in 20 minutes!") into something a child can actually see and follow.

This morning template covers the four essential steps: getting dressed, eating breakfast, brushing teeth and packing the backpack. Each step has its own countdown timer, so your child always knows what comes now, what comes next, and how much time is left — without you having to repeat yourself.

Press "Use this template" and the routine loads instantly into the timer. You can then adjust names, icons and durations to match your family.

Tips for parents

  • Prepare clothes and backpacks the night before — the routine then only covers what cannot be prepared in advance.
  • Keep the order identical every day. Predictability is what reduces resistance, especially for neurodivergent children.
  • Let the child press the start button themselves — ownership increases cooperation.
  • If a step is constantly unfinished, give it more time rather than repeating reminders.
